If you have been to TP these past few months, you may be wondering what all the construction work at the School of Engineering is about ...

Well, you can't keep such a big thing secret for long and you must have read in Monday's Straits Times about the new aviation training facility at Temasek Polytechinc.

Evacuation Slide Training Facility at SIA Training Centre
Time has passed so fast and it’s already the 3rd week of our SCOOT cabin crew training!  We are having Safety and Emergency Procedure (SEP) assessment on the same week after six days of training and intensive reading. The start of the week we had revision. Everyone was mugging (studying) hard before the test as our trainer warned us before that the assessor on that day will be a strict lady. (No kidding) The assessor turned out to be the lady who was with us for the fire fighting drill. She is strict and friendly at the same time.

The result for the assessment was out on Thursday and fortunately, everyone passed!! (Yayyyy) Everyone made it to the next training which is on first aid! The first day of first aid, which is on the Friday, we are taught on how to do an adult one-man CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

At first, we were saying that first aid will be easier compared to SEP training. However, the first practical on CPR made us take back our words. We thought that doing CPR is just performing mouth-to-mouth breathing for ventilation and chest compression for pumping blood through the heart. (Isn't it like what we always see on tv shows?)

Noooo! There are 10 steps in order to perform a correct CPR! And there’s a machine attached to the dummy to ensure that we locate the correct hand position for chest decompression. (We can’t trick the machines!) Nonetheless, we had fun performing CPR to the dummy and making sure we locate the correct position on the chest for the compression!

Last minute mugging before assessment..

Revision time!

Students from our Diplomas in Aviation Management & Services (AMS), Aerospace Electronics (AEL) and Aerospace Engineering (AEG) recently went to Florida, USA, for an overseas study trip.

It's our 2nd week of training and we have the privileged to have our training held at SIA Training Centre (STC) for Safety and Emergency Procedure (SEP), which is one of the most important parts of our training. It’s crucial to pass SEP, or else we are not allowed to fly. Thus, this was something we had to take very seriously, which explains the “intensive” and the tight schedules that we have for our SCOOT training.

We get nervous along the way with regards to the upcoming assessments (Yes… we have exams!)  But of course, most of the theories taught were very familiar to us (the benefit of being an aviator)! It was only the first week of training but we jumped straight into the serious stuff like Standard Operating procedures and countless hands-on lessons! (Emergency drills, slide jumping, firefighting etc.) We have also gotten much closer to our batch mates in such a short time!!

It was indeed a unique eye-opener for us as we get to see how Singapore Airlines stewardesses & stewards were being groomed, trained as well as being able to observe the environment at STC. It took a little time to get used to greet everyone and anyone we saw "Good morning", "Good afternoon" and "Good evening” but now it really just comes naturally. Nonetheless, we have had so much fun and it is just the first week at STC! More photos for you… J

While we’re having breaks….

Day 1 (3/9/12)
Today, we embarked on our journey to become Scoot Cabin Crew! There are a total of 5 interns (Chelsea, Yvonne, Matthew, Aaron and Ray) from AMS, and together with us are 14 other individuals whom are training to be cabin crew.

Upon stepping into the briefing room in Scoot’s office at Changi Airport, we were surprised to find out that the three male interns from AMS were the only male trainees in this batch! Also, our fellow trainees include ex-cabin crew from other airlines and 3 trainees from Japan!
The entire morning for the day was solely an induction program which was kicked off by a talk by CEO Mr Campbell Wilson. He gave an introduction to Scoot and how the culture was like and was very friendly throughout delivering his speech. This was followed by talks about the various departments in Scoot.

In the afternoon, we headed to TP which was something very familiar to us interns and we attended a briefing about Safety & Emergency Procedure training, which commence next week at SIA Training Centre. After that, Scoot’s Head of Safety Security, Quality & Environment gave us a talk about SMS (Safety Management System) which was something we had already learned in the module Aviation Safety Management and Human Factors. This brought back familiar terms and concepts from what we had been learning the entire semester!
