AMS Freshmen Orientation Camp 09/10 - CAMP SKY HIGH

Hi everyone.

Just over a week ago, AMS had its very own orientation camp for the current Year 1s. Organised and run by the Year 2s - with the help of some Year 3s and of course, the lecturers - the 2D1N camp held last Friday proved to be a success.

Over the course of the two days, students went through team-building games, had sneak peeks of AMS internships and had their fair share of fun during the wet games. The camp not only allowed for bonding between the four Year 1 classes, it also gave them a chance to meet and make friends with the seniors.

On behalf of all the organisers of the camp, I would like to thank all the Year 1s who took part in the camp and all the helpers who came down to support us. The camp couldn't have been such a success without all your efforts.

Here are some of the photos from the camp:

Hi everyone.

Hope everyone’s having a pleasant first week back at school. To all seniors who are away on attachment, we hope you guys are having fun too.

On behalf of everyone, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest addition to the ams family.

Just over a week ago, these 106 ams freshmen (or more affectionately known by tp students as freshies)underwent a three-day orientation organised by tpsu. Freshies got a chance to meet their lecturers and classmates even before school actually started.

During the course of these three days, the students also took part in the activities organised by esc (engineering studies club). Examples are learning tp’s very own mass dance, going for director’s speech over at tcc and participating in the school-wide regatta over at bedok reservoir.

On behalf of all ams diploma heads, level leaders and mentors, we hope that everyone had an enjoyable time during their week zero orientation.

Here are some photos from the event:

The Turntables and Ventrifuge. Sounds alien? Not to the student of AMS.

18th and 19th of March was the 2 days in which the students of AMS had the opportunity to experience a potentially-sick in the stomach-out-of-this-world- unforgettable-potentially-sick-in-the-stomach-experience. And did I mention that this experience potentially can make you sick in the stomach? In addition to this, the final year students of AMS had also started on their first day of internships at the Singapore Aeromedical Centre. No pun indeed.

1 of the 2 activities students went through as mentioned was the Turntables. In case you are still imagining us students being on a stage with a circular horizontal platform and grooving it out, no absolutely not. Instead, it involves being locked in a sound-proof 'box', and being spun in a steady horizontal motion. Wanna know how it feels like? Spin yourself on a chair 10 times then bend your head down towards your knees. The feeling is a winner. TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The Ventrifuge....If you are trendy enough to remember the classic Star Wars saga, then this experience is worthwhile. Think a cockpit of an X-Wing – except it's all blacked out with no cockpit instruments to guide you. Then, your 'cockpit' will be subjected to vertical movements whilst constant horizontal centrifuge force is applied. Sounded complex? Simple..... Think of a 'professional' version of a merry-go -round, except that you can't see nothing, just feel, the motions. A definite lunch waster.

Here are the quotes from the students who went through the experience...please excuse the...constancy of the quotes..

Sean (P802) – Dont eat too much before these activities!! you wouldn't want to waste money!

Victoria (P802) – fun!! very dizzy!! I feel woozy!!

Chee Yang (P803) - nauseatic consolation

Xin Hui (P803) OMG!! Giddinezz to the max!!!! An experience worthwhile..

Fathin (P802)- I felt nauseas

Rizuan(P802) – Unforgettable......There's no kick!!
