Manika is the youngest and the only competitor from a Polytechnic, in the AirAsia Cabincrew challenge.

Since young, she's had a desire to fly and when the AirAsia LIVE IT UP IN THE AIR challenge came about, she jumped at the chance.

AirAsia setup a booth at Temasek Polytechnic, for contestants to shoot a video and upload it on their competition page. Based on the number of votes, the Top 50 contestants had to go through an Audition, judged by trainers from AirAsia's Cabin Crew Training Department.

From this, a select 9 Finalists were sent to Kuala Lumpur for an intensive 5 day cabin crew course.

In addition to normal classroom training, the trainees had to undergo some modules on  Web-based learning, via PCs
Manika learnt First Aid, not just for adults, but also how to perform it on children and infants! Above: Manika performs  a manouver to save an infant who's choking
To be a qualified cabin crew, trainees must be able to perform emergency evacuations and safely evacuate from an aircraft. The above photo shows the slide trainer

The next step was to serve onboard real flights. The trainees were rostered on several flights and Manika was fortunate to operate on the Bangkok sector and event spend a night in Bangkok and take in the sights!
Manika making the Inflight announcement on the PA (Public Address) system. This is not just for service (eg "Good Morning and Welcome Onboard!") but also for safety (eg "A the Captain has reported turbulence ahead, please remain in your seats and fasten your seatbelt")
